According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than half a million children ages 1-5 in the U.S. have blood lead levels high enough to damage their health. That’s right – as many as 500,000 US children (2.5%) under 6 years have BLLs ≥5 µg/dL. How?
- Older homes with lead paint are a leading cause. An estimated 3.6 million American homes with at least one child have significant lead paint hazards.

- 10%-20% of childhood lead poisoning is caused by contaminated drinking water due to corroded pipes. It isn’t just older homes and plumbing, though.
